Hundredfold Farm to host 10-10 celebration
Saturday July 10, 2010
- 2-4pm
Hundredfold Farm -1668 Old Route 30, Orrtanna, PA
On Saturday, July 10th from 2 to 4 p.m., Hundredfold Farm will host a special 10-10 celebration. The community is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its founding, and the completion of their 10th home, a new cottage design. Refreshments will be provided.
Hundredfold Farm is an eco-community that is located just west of Gettysburg in Orrtanna, PA. Ten energy-efficient, single-family homes are clustered on six acres of an 75-acre organic Christmas tree farm, with the remaining land preserved for the farm, woodlands, open space, community facilities, and gardens; when completed, the community will consist of a total of 14 homes.
The homes are set on the south-facing side of a hill to provide passive solar heating, as well as solar hot water for domestic hot water use.
Photovoltaic solar panels on the roofs generate green electricity and thus substantially reduce the community¹s dependence on electricity generated from non-renewable sources. Other environmental features include an innovative greenhouse-based wastewater treatment system that purifies wastewater through a series of artificial marshes and ponds. Residents are proud to say that Hundredfold Farm is a demonstration site for ecological sustainability as well as collaborative and cooperative living.
If you are interested in attending this event, plan to visit Hundredfold Farm at 1668 Old Route 30, Orrtanna, PA, on Saturday, July 10th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Visit www.hundredfoldfarm.org for more information and driving directions.
